Elvis Memorabilia Auction Kicks Off in SoHo
This morning, I was invited to the media reception of the Elvis memorabilia auction at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex in SoHo.
An intimate gathering of media were there, with notable guests including celeb gossip columnist extraordinaire, Michael Musto, Blondie keyboardist Jimmy Destri, and Idol cast-off turned Broadway superstar Constantine Maroulis (yes ladies, his eyes are as piercing and dreamy in person) who reveals that his favorite Elvis track is “Jailhouse Rock”.

The highlight of the memorabilia being auctioned off online is the King’s one of a kind baby blue jumpsuit that he wore at a performance on Madison Square Garden on June 10th, 1972. The extravagant, rhinestone-ridden jumpsuit is expected to fetch between $150,000 and $200,000.

The excitement of being millimeters away from these little tokens of Elvis’s life was quickly overshadowed by a sense of sadness at the loss of such an entertainment giant whose hip-swaying, lip curling sex appeal we’ll never see the likes of again.

But then I met Tony Yoken (aka DJ TY of Sirius Elvis channel) who made it to the auction all the way from Graceland, where the Elvis channel studios are located. DJ TY reassured me that the spirit of the King is alive and well, and that his fans still make the pilgrimage to Graceland where the Sirius Elvis Channel studios welcome them in and offer them the opportunity to be a “guest DJ.”
Want to own a piece of Elvis? Then head online at GottaHaveRockandRoll.com now and let the bidding war begin! (auction ends March 25, 2009).
