Recap: An Evening of Reinvention at Saks with Elline Surianello (LeMetric), Valerie White, Ph.D., & Lois Joy Johnson (BettyConfidential.com)
Last night, over a hundred women gathered at the posh Saks Fifth Avenue in Manhattan for a unique women’s empowerment event, “An Evening of Reinvention: From Hair to Toe, and from the Inside Out“. Notable guests included Lori Morris (American Salon), Carole Kim (US Weekly), Jennifer Goodkind (A Fashionable Life) and Aryn Quinn (CEO of Beauty Cares). The evening was organized by AMP3 PR’s event planner extraordinaire Alyson Campbell.
The all-star female panel included AMP3’s own Elline Surianello, owner of LeMetric Hair Center in NYC, Valerie White, clinical psychologist and author, and finally, Lois Joy Johnson, beauty and style editor of BettyConfidential.com.
Attendees were initially greeted with wine, hors d’oeuvres, Saks gift cards, and free makeovers by Estee Lauder.

After settling in, Elline Surianello kicked off the night with a powerful, moving message about her personal journey to self confidence and freedom. As a young teenager, Elline suffered from androgenetic alopecia (hair loss), a condition that would gradually worsen as she aged. And yet, refusing to let her illness control her life and emotions, Elline eventually came to terms with her alopecia and decided to create a solution that would help her feel better about herself: the LeMetric Hair System (lemetric.com). With her hair systems, and her message of hope and female empowerment, Elline Surianello has launched a movement of empowerment unlike any other. She helps hundreds of women overcome the physical and emotional side effects of hair loss, whether they’re her customers or strangers who’ve stumbled across her video blog on YouTube (youtube.com/lemetrichaircenter).

Taking over where Elline left off, psychologist and author Valerie White discussed the psychological effects of hair loss, as well as how laughter therapy has helped people overcome some of the most debilitating diseases. She concluded by sharing a very eye-opening story from her own life, how, as a single woman in her thirties, she had forced herself to live in Manhattan thinking that if she couldn’t find a husband there, she wouldn’t find one in New Jersey suburbs (where her heart really was). Finally, as she was about to turn 40, Valerie had an “Ah-ha” moment of clarity where she decided that she couldn’t stand living in the city anymore, and that she was going to move back to the calm New Jersey suburbs, and adopt a child on her own. And yet, as fate would have it, within three months of moving to the suburbs, Valerie met the man who would become her husband, and the father of her adopted child. This experience, she said, revealed how important it was for women to just let go, and stop resisting. It was only when she found her own true inner peace was she open enough to let love in.

The panel concluded on a lighter note with beauty and style editor Lois Joy Johnson sharing her top ten beauty and style tips for 2009. The amazingly stylish Lois preached about the importance of makeup (you can never wear too much!), Spanx (everyone on the red carpet wears one!), and personal grooming (something she felt was more important than wearing stiletto shoes!). With candid humor, Lois drew some of the biggest laughs when she unabashedly advocated the use of botox or, as an alternative she practiced herself: having bangs.

After the panel was over, the three women answered some questions from the audience but due to time constraints, the Q&A session had to be cut short. However, for those of you who still have questions for Elline Surianello, make a note in your calendars that she’ll be holding a more intimate round-table style discussion on hair at the LeMetric salon headquarters (124 E. 40th St, Suite 601) on Tuesday March 31st, 2009, and Monday April 19th, 2009.
