DOMA is Dead: Love is Love
It’s a proud day to be a New Yorker. The controversial DOMA (Defense Against Marriage Act) was struck down by the supreme court in a landmark 5-4 decision, a huge victory for gay marriage (all legally wed same-sex couples WILL get the same benefits and recognition as heterosexual married couples). The death of DOMA was swiftly followed up with a ruling against California’s controversial Prop 8. While this is a national news story, today is a very happy day for many New Yorkers (NY state is one of only 13 states in the U.S. that currently recognize same-sex marriage as legal) and cause for celebration.
On his official Twitter page, President Obama lent his support to the decision saying, “Today’s DOMA ruling is a historic step forward for #MarriageEquality #LoveIsLove”
