Skate Into The Season
Ice skating season has begun in NYC and if you want to take a turn on the ice you have a number of options to choose from.
1. McCarren Park- McCarren Park pool in Williamsburg, Brooklyn turns into an outdoor ice skating rink every winter. The skating rink officially opened on this past weekend on November 15th and stays open through January. The rink is open 7 days a week from 11am-10pm. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and $4 for children. Skate rentals are an additional $5. http://www.mccarrenpark.com/
2. Bryant Park- The Bryant Park outdoor ice skating rink is the center piece of the Bryant Park Winter Village which officially opened on November 1st and will run through March 2nd. The rink offers free admission and $15 skate rentals. Rink hours are Sunday-Thursday from 8am-10pm and Friday & Saturday from 8am-12am. 3. Central Park- Wollman Rink in Central park is an NYC institution. The rink is located on the east side of the park close to the zoo and is open Monday & Tuesday from 10am-2:30pm, Wednesday & Thursday from 10am-10pm, Friday & Saturday from 10am-11pm, and Sunday from 10am-9pm. Adult admission ranges from $11.25-$18, Children’s admission is $6, and Senior admission ranges from $5-$9. Skate rentals are an additional $8 and lockers are available for an additional fee. 4. Central Park- Lasker Rink (Lasker Pool in summer months) is located mid park between 106th and 108th St. The rink is open Monday-Thursday from 10am-3:45pm, Friday from 10am-11pm, Saturday from 1pm-11pm, and Sunday from 12:30pm-4:30pm. Admission prices are as follows: Adults $7.50, Children $4, Seniors $2.25. 5. Prospect Park- As of December 2013, the new Lakeside at Prospect Park will be Brooklyn’s year-round recreation destination and in the winter months, that means ice skating, or more precisely 2 new ice skating rinks. Details on admission and hours to come.
6. Rockefeller Center- The Rink at Rockefeller Center is an uber popular tourist destination and skating there while admiring the holiday tree and sparkling lights is considered a quintessential NYC experience. The rink opened on October 12th and stays open through April. Skating at the rink as done on a session basis and each session lasts 1.5 hours. Adult sessions are $27, Children & Seniors are $15 and skate rentals are an additional $12.
