Women’s Wellness Week at the West Side Y
Mother’s Day 2014 kicks off Women’s Wellness Week at the West Side Y in celebration of National Women’s Health Week in NYC. This year marks the 15th annual National Women’s Health Week, which runs from Mother’s Day on May 11th until May 17th, and is an initiative backed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. National Women’s Health Week is meant to empower women to make their health a priority, and that’s a mission we at New York Buzz can 100% get behind.
To help encourage women in NYC, the West Side Y has planned a fun week filled with health and fitness related activities that are completely free and open to the public. Free fitness classes including yoga, Pilates, Zumba, boot camp and total body conditioning will be available on a first come first serve basis. Additionally, there will be a number of workshops to attend, including a writing workshop called “Telling Women’s Stories”, a Culinary Wellness Workshop where you’ll learn to create healthy meals, and a Stress Relief Workshop (no explanation necessary there).
Women’s Wellness Week will also provide a great opportunity to receive free health screenings, including free mammograms from Komen NYC and their Scan Van and blood pressure screenings from Duane Reade and Walgreens. If you live near the West Side Y, we definitely recommend taking advantage of all of the free classes and workshops taking place next week. If you don’t live nearby, it doesn’t matter, Nation Women’s Health Week is a great reason to jump start your own health & fitness goals. Empower yourselves and let this week be the one where you make your health a priority.
