Governors Ball Music Festival
Governors Ball Music Festival is this weekend! Finally! It feels like we’ve been waiting all year for it to finally get here and now it’s just days away. We’re getting major flashbacks to laying in wait for Christmas morning as a kid. We’re also proud to say that the festival is in it’s 4th year in NYC and we’ve been lucky enough to tag along for the whole glorious ride, all the way from Governors Island to it’s most recent home on Randall’s Island. Each year the festival truly gets bigger and better, from the caliber of the music to the incredible art installations to the random and amazing activities and activations set up all over the grounds (I’m talking about you Silent Disco!!!). It’s really something to see.
This years music line up is particularly fantastic with a wide variety of bands to check out, but the acts we’re most excited to catch include: Kurt Vile and the Violators, Jenny Lewis, Outkast, Broken Bells, The Strokes, Sleigh Bells, Wild Belle, The Head and the Heart, Empire of the Sun, Vampire Weekend, The Kills, Jack White, and Damon Albarn.
Now we just need to find a way to fit them all in to the jam packed 3 day schedule. To get a sampling of this years bands check out the Governors Ball 2014 Official Playlist on Spotify.
In addition to all of the amazing music taking place, the Gov Ball team has released the lineup of food vendors and it’s pretty incredible and daunting all at the same time. How will we get a taste of it all, it’s impossible. Highest on our list are some Beecher’s Mac and Cheese, a Luke’s Lobster lobster roll, and a Brindle Room cheeseburger. If we can make those 3 things happen, everything else is purely gravy.
Fashion planning for the festival has been it’s own undertaking for sure. Should we wear a dress or will that make laying on the ground to difficult. Should we bring a cute hat, or will we lose it by the end of Day 1. Three days of outfit planning suitable for all day comfort and wear, while also being faced with the totally unpredictable is a tough job. When all is said and done we’ve narrowed it down to one cute, swing-y midi dress, an array of fantastic graphic tanks, a denim shirt over layer and a pair of perfectly torn jean shorts as well as some sturdy Keds sneakers and a panama hat & sunnies to protect our delicate skin and eyes.
In final preparation for this years festival, we’re taking some time for a few moments of silence and prayers for sunshine. And don’t forget the sunscreen!
